Timewinder Tales – performances at The History Museum

September 22 @ 2:00 pm

The History Museum of Hood River County is proud to present Timewinder Tales (formerly Cemetery Tales), a theatrical presentation about the lives of interesting people who make up the history of the Columbia River Gorge. The theme this year is “1924” – a snapshot of what life was like 100 years ago in Hood River and the Gorge.  1924 is the year the Hood River Bridge and the Butler Bank Building were completed; audience members will learn about the interesting characters and stories of that time, as local actors portray some of the people who lived and worked here before us.

Characters (and actors who portray them) include:

  • Leslie Butler (Richard Withers), owner of the Butler Bank Building, completed in 1924.
  • A.E. Doyle (David Dye) the renowned architect who designed the Butler Bank Building, several others in Hood River, as well as some very well known Portland buildings.
  • Shidzuyo Yasui (Cynthia Yoshida) who was a Japanese immigrant and wife of businessman Masuo Yasui.  She will tell us about the Yasui brothers stores and what life was like as a Japanese-American person in Hood River in the early 1900s.
  • Ola Stryker Bell (Kate Dougherty) who owned the Mt Hood Hotel with her husband Charles and then continued to run it after his death.  She was a very active community members and the first woman to serve on the Hood River city council
  • Pansy Dewitt (Barb Berry), active community member who will be our “MC” for the show and let us know what happened to her fellow “characters” after 1924.

Performances will be Friday and Saturday, September 20-21 at 7pm, and Sunday, September 22 at 2pm at The History Museum of Hood River County.   Refreshments will be available for purchase/ by donation.

Tickets are $20 each and can be purchased online at www.hoodriverhistorymuseum.org or at the museum.  Half price tickets are available for students under 18; email info@hoodriverhistorymuseum.org to reserve student tickets.
