Temperament Typing with Kim Bauer

Want to understand your horse on a deeper level? Come learn more about the Five Element Temperament Types (fire, earth, metal, water, wood).

The Five Element theory from Traditional Chinese medicine includes the idea that each of us, horse or human, represents a “constitutional type,” exhibiting certain physical and emotional traits that are specific to that type. Viewing our horses from this perspective facilitates a better understanding of their nature and needs.

Personality plays a large part in determining the Temperament Type of a horse. However, the environment a horse is raised in can have a strong influence on this. For example, a Water type horse could be calm and confident when he is living in a safe place and trusts his handlers, but panicky and impulsive when handled poorly or when feeling insecure. Similarly, a normally friendly Fire type horse could become anxious and fearful if treated roughly and without compassion.

Join Master Temperament Typing Consultant Kim Bauer at the Hood River Saddle Club on Tuesday, November 12th at 6:30pm to hear more about each of the Temperament Types.
