Season Opening of Bistro 1907 @ Historic Balch Hotel
May 25 @ 4:00 pm
Join us this Memorial Day weekend for the season opener of the recently revived Bistro 1907!
A casual kickoff event will take place on Saturday, May 25th, featuring an expanded seasonal menu from Chef Kevin West, dinner and drink specials 4-9pm, and live bluegrass on the patio 6-8pm from the Ditch Diggers: an old-time string band from the Gorge’s own Shannon Burns, Walt Burns and Jesse Buckwalter. With an emphasis on rustic, northwest fare that honors the agriculture roots of the region, Bistro 1907 will offer a focused menu that’s both fresh and indulgent, sourcing from local ranches and farms.
There is no cover charge for the opening event, but reservations are strongly recommended (call 541-467-2277.)
About Bistro 1907 at the historic Balch Hotel:
Built in 1907 and opened in 1908, in its pre-Depression heyday, the Balch Hotel was the primary lodging and gathering place for salesmen, ranchers, timbermen, and passengers from the then-booming Great Southern Railroad station. The dining room – with its same footprint as today – was a thriving social hub for both travelers and locals. The late Frank Ingels Jr, whose folks bought the hotel from the Balch family in 1913, remembered the days when the dining room was so well used, a rope had to be placed across the entrance to control the crowd.
Now ranked among the top travel destinations in Oregon, the Balch Hotel is a protected landmark under the National Register of Historic Places. Well-loved by a new iteration of traveler, Bistro 1907 is modern reinvention of a restaurant with century-old roots in hearty, rustic, local fare. Its original dining room and famous mountain-view patio reopen 7-nights-a-week beginning Thursday, May 23rd.
