Polar Bear Love
February 7 @ 6:00 pm
Made in the Gorge, located at 108 Oak in Hood River, is thrilled to announce the opening celebration of “Polar Bear Love,” a gallery show featuring seven artists whose works capture the raw beauty and increasing vulnerability of polar bears in their rapidly changing Arctic habitat.
This is an evolving art show with proceeds supporting Polar Bears International, a non-profit focusing on habitat protection and research initiatives in the Arctic. The show coincides with International Polar Bear Day on Feb 27.
An opening celebration takes place on Friday, Feb 7, from 6 until 8 pm, with the show continuing through the end of the month. A multimedia exhibition, Steider says, “We are raising awareness and funds for Polar Bears International, who will be featured at our opening with a representative and informative display to discuss all things polar bear, including habitat, physical characteristics, and how we can help avoid extinction. Last summer, I left my heart in Svalbard and returned determined to help polar bears.”
Featured works by participating artists include wildlife photographer Linda Steider, who traveled to Svalbard to photograph polar bears; watercolorist Ashley Nelson, capturing the beauty and wonder of the Arctic with the Northern lights; Jeweler Kyla Rae transforming blue ice colored crystals into wearable art; pottery by Sarah Hui, metal art by Nick Miles, fiber art by Nancy Skakel, and furniture maker Wayne Cordrey working from imaginative visions.
Idiot’s Grace Wines will be pouring wine at the opening night celebration.
After traveling to the Arctic, Linda Steider collaborated with Chicago photographer Tracy Crowley to produce simultaneous gallery shows supporting PBI. Crowley’s show ‘Edges of the World-A Photography Love Story’ captures our globe’s arctic regions and runs in February, continuing into Mar. An opening reception will occur on Mar 8 at Aglaia Cafe in River West, Chicago.
