THE SONS OF RAINIER

The Sons of Rainier is the full band project of songwriter Devin Champlin, featuring members Dean Johnson, Sam Gelband, and Charlie Meyer. They hail from NW Washington with one foot in Louisiana and together they’ve carved out a lo-fi, unique, and influential voice in the indie-folk/americana world. The arrangements rest on the foundation of Devin’s open-book lyrical songwriting, and is brought forth with warm tube amps, Dean’s unpredictable, weeping guitar lines, a loosely tuned snare, upright bass, and closely saturated three-part harmonies. It is 45 rpm folk music that is sweet and haunting. It’s a polaroid of a stolen slow dance. Their first album Down in Pancake Valley has found its way into the permanent library of hobos, widows, fry cooks, and fancy pants alike. Their second album Take Me Anywhere released in Feb 2023 and continues their thread of pondering, wandering, losing, loving, and longing.
