Live Music: Lucas Lawson

August 31 @ 6:00 pm

Welcome back to magical summer and fall nights with live music on the grounds of the Balch!

Join us at the Balch (15 minutes from The Dalles) Saturday, Aug 31 for dinner and a show with singer-songwriter Lucas Lawson. Lawson is coming to us from Santa Cruz, CA, but his story hits close to home.

Lucas grew up immersed in the rhythms of farm life and bluegrass just north of Santa Cruz, CA. He picked up guitar attending bluegrass barn dances, playing alongside local group, the County Line Pickers. In August of 2020, the CZU Complex fires, a wildfire that spread 86,509 acres across the Santa Cruz Mountains, reached Lucas’s home and the surrounding landscape. A few days after a lightning storm sparked the flames, Lawson faced evacuation orders as the flames climbed the ridge. The lasting impact of the fire embedded itself into Lawson’s music. His newest album, “This Dirt,” is a tribute to all that was lost to the flames, processing what he and his community faced, reflecting on loss and resilience.
