History Museum Opening Reception – Paintings from Museum Archives

February 28 @ 7:00 pm

“From the Vault:  Paintings from the Museum Archives”

Museum Members Reception on Friday, February 28, 7:00 – 8:30pm

Celebrating local artists, the History Museum of Hood River County presents “From the Vault:  Paintings from the Museum Archives.”  The exhibition features artworks by well known local artists Percy Manser, Lois Talbot, Oscar Hukari, Norman Tucker, and others.

Several of the artists featured were founding members of the Hood River Art Club in 1949.  The group first met on the second floor of Norman Tucker’s father’s feed store, now the location of Discover Bicycles.  Tucker was the first president of the club and taught art lessons for many years.

A highlight of the exhibit is the 10’ x 4’ painting of downtown Hood River and Mt. Hood by real estate landscape artist Gibson Catlett (1866-1935) and his team.  Catlett sketched the work and Portland artist Henry Epting (1860-1911) provided the color work for the painting completed in 1910.  Catlett specialized in real estate promotional materials for land developers on the west coast and midwest.

Enjoy wine and hors d’oeuvres.
