Garden Gathering WaterWise Gardening

OSU Hood River Extension Central Gorge Master Gardeners welcome home gardeners of all abilities to attend the upcoming Garden Gathering series of educational presentations. These free presentations will be held monthly through October 2024 and are designed to be interactive and aid in your growth as a gardener.
The Garden Gathering series continues with Central Gorge Master Gardener volunteer, Norma Benson who will present a workshop on WaterWise gardening techniques.
Topics to be covered in this workshop include:
- The Hood River Library WaterWise Garden Origin Story
- Designing your own waterwise garden: describe your garden space and consider universal elements of garden design
- Aesthetic considerations: the mind at work
- Plant selection: know your zone
- Nuts and bolts: soil amendments and moisture
- Sketch your plan: ask questions and share
Norma Benson is the project leader for the Central Gorge Master Gardener WaterWise Garden at the Hood River County Library and has 33 years of gardening experience in arid climates. “Knowing how much water your plants need, how to conserve the water that you give them and reducing evaporation are key elements to WaterWise gardening.” says Benson. This workshop is designed to teach you how to create a beautiful landscape while using less water.
Two sessions of the Garden Gathering Water-wise Gardening Workshop will be held at different times and locations. The same information will be offered at each session.
- Saturday, July 13, 10 – 11:30 AM the Hood River County Library, State Street, Hood River, OR
- Tuesday, July 16, 6:30-8 PM at the White Salmon Library, 77 NE Wauna Ave, White Salmon, WA
All are welcome to attend the Garden Gathering to learn how to create and maintain a beautiful landscape that uses less water. No registration is needed for this free workshop. Upcoming topics for Garden Gathering workshops are Planting Fall Crops, Seed Saving, and Tool Care.Dates, times and locations will be announced prior to each presentation.
Central Gorge Master Gardener volunteers provide free beginning gardening classes and continuing education to home gardeners. Home gardeners can also drop off plant or pest samples Monday – Thursday between 9 AM and 4 PM at the OSU Hood River County Extension Service, 2990 Experiment Station Drive, Hood River, OR.
