Garden Gathering Tool Care workshop

October 12 @ 10:00 am

The 2024 Garden Gathering series concludes with Central Gorge Master Gardener volunteers Jim Black, Dennis Carlson and Scott Fitch presenting a workshop on lawn and garden tool care. This will be a hands-on workshop in garden tool maintenance.

Please bring a few of your tools that need some care, or practice tool care skills with a tool from the FISH Food Bank Garden tool shed.

Topics to be covered in this workshop include:

  • How to care for small hand tools, tools with small motors, and electric or battery operated tools
  • Showing respect for older tools that have been handed down to you
  • Ways to organize your tool storage area

Black, Carlson and Fitch have a combined 100+ years of experience in lawn and garden tool care. Fitch says that, “Rust is the most common culprit to impede effective use of hand tools. Fortunately, there’s an easy solution.” While Carlson explains, “In order to get efficient use of your small engine tools next season, special care is needed before putting them in winter storage.” With Black adding, “Many homeowners find that electric and battery operated tools offer ease of use and care. I’ll explain what to look for when buying new tools, and how to care for them and maintain battery life.”

The Garden Gathering Tool Care Workshop will be held on Saturday, October 12 , 10  – 11:30 AM at the Fish Food Bank conference room and the FISH Food Bank Garden, 1130 Tucker Road, Hood River, Oregon. All are welcome to attend the Garden Gathering to learn how to care for your lawn and garden tools. No registration is needed for this free workshop.
