CGOA’s Chamber Music Concert POSTPONED

January 21 @ 2:00 pm

PLEASE NOTE:

CGOA Afternoon of Chamber Music PostponedDue to weather and mechanical issues at the venue, we have decided to postpone this coming Sunday’s chamber music concert until February, date still pending. Apologies for any inconvenience. It’s worth waiting for, so we hope to see you in February!

Intimate, exciting and musically varied are just a few ways to describe CGOA’s annual concert of chamber music, scheduled for January 21 at 2 PM at Hood River Valley Christian Church. Instead of highlighting large ensembles like the Sinfonietta or Voci choir, the chamber music concert features small groups of musicians and solo performers.

Unlike large ensembles, chamber music is a collaborative effort between performers, who work on interpretation, style and technical issues without a conductor. Sinfonietta music director Mark Steighner describes it as the difference between a music factory and a workshop.

Steighner said that composers love writing chamber music because they often know the abilities of the specific performers and can tailor the music to them. Well known composers such as Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert and Brahms wrote some of their greatest music for small groups. In the 20th and 21st centuries, chamber music became the go-to genre for many composers.

CGOA has presented its “chamber music in the afternoon” concert a number of times to full houses and enthusiastic audiences. While many of the participants are members of the Sinfonietta, the concert also includes other community performers. As of press time, the program includes a Shostakovich Piano Trio, the Riverside Chancel Choir, the Sinfonietta Brass Quintet, Mitchell Jett Spencer, and Mark Stanfield performing on the highland bagpipes.

The concert begins at 2 PM on Sunday, January 21 at Hood River Valley Christian Church. Admission is by donation and no tickets are required. For more information about the concert or upcoming events, visit gorgeorchestra.org
