Artist Talk: Freedom Sisters Roadshow
June 13 @ 7:00 pm
The Freedom Sisters Road Show is an exhibit of upcycled functional art by four regional artists: Barbara Kilkenny, Abigal Kaehler, Denise Jiminez and Jan Byrkit. This show is also a tribute to finding and celebrating joy. According to Chicago Gallery News, functional art is defined as, “Occupying the space between fine art and the everyday, functional art refers to aesthetic objects that serve utilitarian purposes. The genre is remarkably inclusive, it encompasses everything from furniture and lighting to dishes and even books.” Their connection as artists is their creative repurposing of used items as well as their understanding of their own unique interests and talents. The quartet have joined forced for this exhibit to showcase pieces created from a mindset that includes aesthetics and utility.
Sally Johnson will start off the evening with questions for the artists, then we’ll end with questions from the audience. The proceeds from this event benefit The Dalles Art Center. Thank you to the Columbia Gorge Community College for your support.
