July Ecology Club: Groundtruthing 101

Groundtruthing involves documenting threats to public forests and finding inconsistencies between what logging plans outline and what actually happens on the ground. This information is essential for building a legal and public case for stopping destructive projects and is a great introduction to the work we Bark does in the forest. To do this work, we must have an understanding of a proposed timber sale’s geography and ecology. We need good photos, good maps, and good people that know the area of forest well enough to be able to show it to others. This training requires no previous experience and is intended for people interested in becoming actively engaged in this type of in-the-forest work with Bark.

This groundtruthing training is in two parts:

On Wednesday, July 8th we will meet from 6:00pm to 7:30pm to go over the basics where we’ll learn how to research timber sales using Bark’s resources and learn how to read timber sale maps in preparation for travelling to the forest.

Sunday, July 12th from 10:30am to 12:00pm is the second part of this training [https://www.bark-out.org/event/july-bark-about-groundtruthing-201]

Registration is required for both parts, taking place on Zoom. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. Here is the link to register: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZEld-6uqT8oH9SKLckHF54aQmv2xVYSQl2V
