Bring your Christmas trees to the drop-off site so they can be taken to Dirt Hugger and turned into a nutrient-rich compost! The event is FREE for residents. Donations will be accepted at the event and go directly to the high school for the volunteer hours spent hosting the event. All donations go towards their school programs.
The Klickitat County Solid Waste Department, Republic Services, Dirt Hugger, Washington Department of Ecology, and Columbia High School are partnering up to host this collection event as part of our goal of reducing waste in Klickitat County. Trees, and other yard waste, are a great source for compost. Dirt Hugger is a composting facility located in our county in Dallesport, Washington. They will take these Christmas trees and utilize them with their other materials to create nutrient-rich compost.
**Restrictions- No artificial trees, no tinsel, no ornaments, and no other yard waste will be accepted at this event. This collection event is specifically for Christmas trees.
-Pending- We are working on a way of offering pick-ups for those that are unable to bring the trees. If we are unable to get that going, we hope that you will make the trip to Columbia High School to drop-off your tree on January 8th. We will update this event if we are able to confirm an organization to help with the pickups.
