Award winning photographer/photojournalist Jurgen Hess will present a program about the devastating 2017 Eagle Creek Fire along with stunning & powerful imagery on Friday, September 14. The 7pm program will follow a 6pm dinner.
The Eagle Creek Fire and other large, consuming fires in the Gorge, including the Dollar Lake and the recent Substation Fire have emotional, financial and ecological impacts. The in the moment experience of fire is brought to life by Hess’s photography and will be discussed in the context of time, ecology and history of the gorge.
Hess spent 34 years working for the US Forest Service. He served on the Columbia Gorge Commission representing the Federal Government and he was an instrumental recipient of the Hammer Award from VP Al Gore for his planning of the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center & Museum.
