This original production was first performed in February 2008, and is presented to the Gorge again by Plays For Non-Profits in conjunction with CCA Children’s Theatre. The play is a fairytale of enchantment and music. Blind from birth, Princess Mei-Lei despairs, as a string of magicians and doctors try to cure her of her blindness. Her father, the Emperor Ming, has offered riches to anyone who succeeds, but the Emperor Scorpion, of a rival neighboring kingdom, offers what appears to be unity by way of marriage to his son, Prince Vulture.
Ming’s devoted chamberlain, Sun-Sen, is also in love with Mei-Lei, in this romantic, humorous production. Along the way, we follow the theft of the country’s greatest treasure, the magic sparrow’s mate, in hopes that the birds can be reunited to save Ming’s kingdom. Audience members can expect laughs, love, cheerily villainous characters, jewels, surprise, and more!
Tickets: $20 for adults, $15 for students and seniors 62+, $10 for children under 10 years, and $10 for groups of 10 or more.
