Sutherlin is hitting the road for 8 months in celebration of their debut LP. A Pacific Northwest take on modern country music, the band’s debut was produced by Chet Lyster (Lucinda Williams, The Eels, The Jayhawks) and features Paul Brainard on pedal steel (Richmond Fontaine). Recorded in February 2017 at Portland, Oregon’s Destination Universal studios, the album features 10 new songs written and sung by Thomas Dietzel.
Portland musician Thomas Dietzel has performed with numerous bands including Kindergarten (CMJ 1995), Shed Incorporated (NxNW 2000), Last Prick Standing (Nofest 2011), Six Legged Horse, Good News Combo Pack, and Redneck Baby. Dietzel has also collaborated with Matt Sheehy of Lost Lander (SxSW 2007). To date, he has released over a dozen albums, including the new solo rock EP Quadrants.
Live, Sutherlin is Thomas performing alone with only his guitar and remarkable voice.
“The 10 tracks are hand-crafted to a standard of perfection. The lyrics are a flawless fit to today’s modern country. The combination of these songs and the superb production makes for a very strong album.” – No Depression
“Like a Tarantino Western, his band Sutherlin plays with gravel-flecked tropes but turns them into gleaming highways of wit and tongue in cheek sass… The love for the form is there regardless of any nudge nudge wink wink.” – Paste
