Community fundraiser event for Hood River hero Elijah Pate.
Elijah Pate moved to Hood River with his parents, Ben and Stephanie Pate, and his older sister, Faith, at age 2. He has always been a very active kid.
Elijah began to experience an array of concerning symptoms early last year that led to a CT brain scan shortly after his 12th birthday. A golf ball size tumor was discovered on his brain stem. He underwent major brain surgery on August 1st, 2018 to remove the tumor. Testing confirmed a diagnosis of medulloblastoma brain cancer.
Post surgery Elijah has undergone 6 weeks of intense radiation therapy to his brain and spine and is currently in the midst of 10 grueling months of chemotherapy. Due to the location of the tumor and the difficult surgery to remove it, Elijah has lost significant function on the right side of his body. He has spent many weeks in inpatient rehabilitation therapy and continues to receive intense outpatient physical, occupational, and speech therapy.
Elijah is in the process of learning to walk, talk, see, and become left hand dominant. Elijah has unfortunately suffered many difficult and severe side effects of surgery and treatment. Though it has been a difficult journey, he shows great perseverance and resiliency. He misses climbing trees, walking unassisted, and going to school the most and greatly looks forward to getting to enjoy his favorite activities once again.
Bring your community love and support ~ and join us for an afternoon filled with music – goodies – amazing raffle prizes – and merch that all go towards supporting the Pate family and empowering young Elijah in his battle with cancer.
