Come out to Solera for a special Sunday night show and see why Bearcoon is one of our favorite bands. Grab a beer and let yourself become enchanted with beautiful voices and original tunes all the way from Long Beach, CA.
Music starts at 6ish. Minors permitted until 8. They will play later if we still have a crowd.
After taking home the grand prize win at Buskerfest (Long Beach’s largest and longest-running battle-of-the-bands competition) and being named “Best Folk Act” by the OC Weekly, the on-stage bandmates and off-stage girlfriends of Bearcoon made a bold decision: to sell 95% of their possessions, quit their jobs, give up their apartment, and begin touring the country full-time. Following their sold-out album release show at Fingerprints Music in June 2015, the pair left town in a 1992 Chevy G20 conversion van they’d purchased off of Craigslist a few weeks earlier. Following its release their album, El Guapo, quickly reached the #1 spot on amazon.com’s “Hot New Releases” list and would go on to be voted “Long Beach Album of the Year” on the Long Beach Post’s public opinion poll.
The duo spent 2016 touring the west coast and making appearances at several noteworthy festivals, including Joshua Tree Music Festival, Mystic Faire (Bakersfield), and a headlining spot at the Long Beach Green Prize Festival. In August 2016 Bearcoon released Laminak, a five song EP to a sold-out crowd at the Compound Studio in Long Beach, CA.
Bearcoon then traveled to the east coast for a stretch of shows in Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina, after which they opened for the Posies at a fundraising event in Portland, OR. Bearcoon finished 2016 gigging heavily in the Long Beach area, including a set at the Best of LGBT Long Beach Awards ceremony.
Bearcoon is currently working on their third album, Home, a collection of reflections on the beauties and everyday rigors of an artist’s life on the road.
