Yvonne Pepin-Wakefield, Ph.D., artist and author will discuss her research and paintings of pomegranates in a 45 minute didactic program. From 2004-2010 Yvonne was a professor at Kuwait University, teaching art to Muslim women. Her independent paintings and university-sponsored research culminated in exhibitions, publication, and furthered her exploration of the pomegranate in the arts and culture of the Middle East and beyond. Visual examples of her own art and her work with Kuwaiti students will be included in the presentation and discussion which traces the pomegranate as image and symbol depicted in artifacts and art throughout centuries and cultures.
She divides her time between her studios in Tieton, Washington and The Dalles, Oregon.
