Join us for an enchanting evening of music and dance, highlighting traditional and cultural dances from two very different parts of the globe. We will open the evening with an intriguing performance by Experience Flamenco of Portland, accompanied by traditional flamenco guitar. After this energetic performance and a brief intermission, we will move into unique belly dance choreography set to the gorgeous improvisational cello of Billy Mickelson of third seven recordings.
Third seven recordings is a music label established with one simple philosophy: to offer honest, sincere music available for the world to pay any price they wish to pay for it. Based out of Bend, Oregon, Billy Mickelson, created ‘third seven recordings’ (tsr) as a way to have all of his music available for the world to enjoy in one convenient location. His wife, Alicia, lived in the Middle East and studied the traditional art form of belly dancing for several years before bringing this craft to the Northwest.
Laura Onizuka is the founder of Experience Flamenco. She travels to Spain twice a year to take groups of people to study flamenco in its birthplace. She teaches workshops in Portland, holds retreats across the Western US, and writes about flamenco. Growing up, Laura and her sister would put together song & dance shows for family and neighbors. She eventually started experimenting with theatre, visual arts, and performance. After discovering flamenco she was instantly intrigued and it remained on her mind.
